Fall in love with your arms : Confidence-Boosting Tricks and Free Gift

As a stylist, I often meet women who struggle with body confidence. Recently I have worked with clients who are reluctant to show off their arms in summer clothing. Whilst brands are accommodating this issue by creating more sleeved dresses and tops, eliminating sleeveless options immediately limits your style. Often stylists suggest “popping on a short cardigan”; “draping a scarf around shoulders” ; “opting for a lace or sheer sleeve” etc. I guess they are solutions BUT are they stylish? I personally believe these can be outdated and frumpy solutions. So, what do I suggest?

Dry Body Brushing

Yep, let’s start with the basics - it’s all in the preparation. Invest in a hand-held body brush and spend a couple of minutes each morning sweeping up from the tips of your fingers to the top of your arms, paying particular attention to the backs of the arms. This makes a huge difference to the condition of your skin and helps with lymphatic drainage. Consistency is key – try it for a week and see the difference it makes.

The Perfect Self Tan

Adding a light glow to your arms will make a huge difference to how you view your arms. My favourite gradual tan is Gatineau. It takes a few days to build up the colour, but it works a treat and looks so natural. Alternatively, when I need an instant fix I use Rimmel Instant Tan. Always go for ‘light matte’ . It looks very dark but rubs in to give you a light golden colour which ‘takes the edge off’ pale skin and instantly slims down the arms.

The Flattering Sleeve

When choosing tops and t-shirts – opt for a short sleeve that is cut at an angle. This will give the illusion of a slimmer arm. Also, v-neck t-shirts will elongate your upper body and draw attention away from the arms.

Using jewellery to detract

Jewellery instantly draws one’s gaze to a specific area of the body. It’s a great way of detracting from arms. Why not opt for a stunning necklace, fabulous bracelets, cool earrings or a statement ring and see the difference it makes.

Arm exercises that work : Your 5 Day Gift

I am hugely fortunate that one of my best mates is also an incredible fitness coach. Jem Scragg has kept me sane and in shape for over 15 years. He has changed how I train my body through a variety of specific training programs. He is also a generous guy who has created a free 5-day arm exercise programme for MKS readers. Simply click this link to join. Rest assured I’ll be on it with you.

I hope this Style Post gives you the confidence to show off your arms this summer. And feel free to share this with great women you know. The MKS community is made up of bright, interesting, kind and funny women (who also happen to be incredibly stylish) - it would be a pleasure to welcome more.

You’re very welcome
